Chris Satterthwaite has been appointed as the group managing director of Chime Communications, the independent communications company run by Tim Bell.

Satterthwaite, previously the chief executive of the Chime subsidiary Bell Pottinger Communications, will work alongside Rupert Howell, the chief executive of the Chime Group.

His role will be to run day-to-day operations across the whole group with the aim of a more cohesive offer.

The Chime group includes HHCL & Partners, Bell Pottinger, AMD group, OLR and Good Relations.

Satterthwaite, who started his career in marketing at Heinz, joined HHCL in 1993 from IMP where he was the chief executive. He moved from the direct agency along with five other senior players. In October 1999, he was replaced by Robin Azis as the chief executive of HHCL as he moved to be the chief executive of Bell Pottinger.

Rupert Howell, the chief executive of the Chime Group, said: 'Chris is the best I have seen in any business anywhere. He manages to raise the game without treading on toes. He is truly a multi-skilled communications person.'

Satterthwaite said: 'What I've learnt at Bell Pottinger is that the world of brands and corporate life need to be closer. Cross-pollination of knowledge, ideas and expertise will bring to bear a fuller offering for our clients.'

Kevin Murray, the managing director of Bell Pottinger Consultants, will replace Satterthwaite as the chief executive of Bell Pottinger Communications.
