The mobile phone network One2One has appointed Claydon Heeley Jones Mason to handle its direct marketing.
Claydon Heeley won the pounds 8 million account after a pitch against three other agencies. One2One previously used WWAV Rapp Collins but decided to review its position late last year. WWAV did not repitch for the business.
One2One, the smallest of the UK's four mobile networks, was thought to favour moving the account into a smaller agency, but opted for Claydon Heeley after its strategy emerged as the strongest.
Nigel Jones, chief executive of Claydon Heeley Jones Mason, said: 'The pitch was all about strategy for One2One over the next four or five years in the changing telecommunications market.'
Claydon Heeley will develop ways of retaining existing customers and attracting new ones. It claims to have doubled its customer numbers during 2000 to 8.3 million. Of this, pre-pay customers account for 6.4 million of One2One's customers or 77 per cent of the total.
One2One has also appointed the Manchester agency MKP Performance to handle its point of sale account. Both agency appointments were made by Paul Hamburger, One2One's head of consumer marketing. Several other roster promotional agencies, including Team LGM, have lost their place on the roster.
One2One has pledged to improve services since its recent acquisition by Deutsche Telekom. It is expected to invest pounds 600 million into providing new services, following its acquisition of a third generation mobile licence in the UK last May.
There has been speculation that One2One will be re-branded as T-Mobile, the name of Deutsche Telekom's service in Germany.
