Marketers often talk about how marketing must move up the corporate agenda, so it’s little wonder that Clark is most proud of earning a seat "at the very top table of HSBC for the marketing function".

Another focus is sustainability, which he over­sees at HSBC; he is "working on a very cool piece of marketing at Gatwick Airport to showcase our conservation work [with WWF] on the Yangtze River". HSBC, like a lot of banks, faces perception issues, but there is a directness to Clark’s marketing output that cuts through the puff of some other players.
