CIA’s Horner to head JWT product agency

John Horner, the managing director of CIA Medianetwork’s group marketing communications consultancy, CIA Conzept, has been poached by J. Walter Thompson to start up a specialist division working with clients on new product development.

J. Walter Thompson to start up a specialist division working with

clients on new product development.



Alec Castle, a partner in CIA Conzept, is also leaving to join Horner at

the new division, which has yet to be named. It will open in August this

year, once Horner and Castle have negotiated their notice periods.



Neither Horner nor Dominic Proctor, the JWT chief executive, would

comment on the appointments.



The strategic consultancy is part of JWT’s strategy to beef up

specialist services within the group. Other branded specialist units

within the agency are Vision 40, JWT’s sponsorship division; the media

research consultancy, Advance Techniques Group; the observational

research unit, In situ; and the promotions and direct marketing

operation, Brand Communications.



The new product development division will straddle both the creative and

media departments, with account directors working alongside Horner and

Castle. The new unit will not be affected by the imminent merger of the

JWT and Ogilvy and Mather media departments by their parent company,

WPP.
