Close-Up: 24 Hours with ... Peter Charlton, Viacom Outdoor

Name: Peter Charlton Job: Sales director, Viacom Outdoor Professional mission: Capturing and captivating consumers on the move Personal mantra: Please and thank you

11.00pm-6.00am Awake a lot as Brixton streets sound busy.

6.00am Christian O'Connell wakes me up, makes me laugh out loud either side of the snooze button.

6.30am Up, shower and Chris Moyles while getting dressed.

7.10am Head out. Bus at the stop outside my flat has my colleague Chris Chater on the side (part of our bus trade promotion). Secretly scan every bus for me - as I'm on one too. Short Tube journey, accompanied by the Telegraph, trying not to check the BlackBerry.

7.50am Office, coffee, e-mails and a bit of nufc.com. Add things to the "to-do" list that Vicki, my PA, puts together the evening before.

9.00am Chater (him from the side of the bus) and I have a meeting at Posterscope with Rob Rosenthal and Andy Matthews - check current trading forecasts for the next quarter and the general market outlook, which is pretty strong.

10.30am Meeting at BLM with Pippa Glucklich, Pedro Avery and Guy, our head of agency sales - an agency doing very well, which we want to do a lot more with.

11.30am Back at the office. Check the revenue numbers. Do a lot of walking around. Check in with all three sales teams: client, agency and specialist.

1.00pm Lunch in Soho with the always-entertaining Lindsay Weedon of PHD - lots of gossip with bits of business thrown in.

3.00pm Meeting with FMCG client representative Pete Edwards. He is an ex-agency guy who thinks of things that traditional media owners don't.

4.00pm Weekly one-to-one with the boss, Tim Bleakley - lots of listening, "actions", priorities. Like me, he's new to the outdoor business and, like me, very enthused by it.

4.45pm Yvonne Scullion, who heads our sales operations team, joins us to plan our trading strategy. Need more bus.

6.15pm Head for Leicester Square to meet my girlfriend. My turn to cook, so we eat out (Kettners has seen better days).

8.00pm-11.00pm TV. Bit of Chelsea and a bit of Gordon Ramsay. BlackBerry - bit of work and bit of correspondence with mates (I'm organising my 40th).

11.00pm Bed, hoping Brixton is quieter tonight.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off Campaign's relaunch than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
