Close-Up: 24 hours with ... Rachel Dutton and Debbie Castaldo - graduating creatives

Names: Rachel Dutton and Debbie Castaldo
Job: Graduating creatives looking for first placement
Professional mission: To begin with, get an ad produced but eventually
become creative directors
Personal mantra: You get out of life what you put in

6.00am Woke up. Realised what time it was and went back to sleep. Much too early for students.

7.00am Get up.

8.00am Realise hotel door won't lock and have to change rooms. Great start to the day.

9.15am Arrive at Wieden & Kennedy for first crit of the day with Fabian and Ida. Our Euro 2008 campaign is a hit, but still needs expansion.

11.05am Manage to grab a quick bite to eat on Tottenham Court Road while checking e-mail and blog.

11.40am Second crit of the day at Saatchi & Saatchi with Rachel and Izzy. Great ideas come from it and fairly good response to the book.

1.00pm Have a good rummage round Spitalfields Market for inspiration and have a quick drink in the sun.

2.00pm Third crit of the day with Ben Kay and Daryl Corps at Lunar BBDO. Fantastic advice and a browse through the new Creative Circle annual. Good book and crit.

2.30pm Cheeky phone call to Brian Connolly at Saatchi & Saatchi and arrange meeting in an hour.

3.30pm Another honest and useful crit with Brian, who always tells us straight, which we really appreciate.

4.30pm Arrive at JWT for portfolio night. Time to freshen up after a hectic day.

5.00pm Have a quick drink and mingle with the other budding creatives. There's a lot of us.

6.45am Portfolio night kicks off. Rachel sees Iain Tait from Poke London. Debbie sees Mark from JWT. Both give great advice.

7.00pm All change. Rachel sees Russell Ramsey who was harsh, but honest, and Debbie sees Alistair from Agency Republic who was enthusiastic about one of our ideas, but said it needs redirection.

7.15pm Change again. Miles Bingham from JWT laughed at a few campaigns, while Graham Fink decapitated our book. We came for advice and we certainly got it.

9.30pm Waited for Paul Silburn in overtime and got a great insight into what Saatchi & Saatchi is looking for, along with some constructive comments.

10.00pm Leave JWT and head back to hotel with information overload.

11.30pm Finally crawl into bed for well-deserved sleep.
