John Owen is irritated by the Madonna-fronted Max Factor ad, created by Leo Burnett: ’This is a tricky one because I love the idea of using Madonna and I’m sure the strategy will do wonders for the business. I certainly hope it does - if only to shame rivals who fight shy of ’older’ women. But the bottom line is that when I’m sitting at home watching TV and this ad comes on, I cringe. Does anyone seriously still believe Madonna can act after this?’
