- Compaq, which earlier this week moved its $300 million global advertising account out of Ammirati Puris Lintas and into DDB Needham, is set to move its media planning and buying as well.

A decision is expected later today which will see Compaq, based in Houston, confirm that media planning and buying will leave APL and Initiative Media for New York based DDB Needham Worldwide and its Optimum Media unit.

A Compaq spokesman said last night that a decision had "not yet been articulated" and refused to confirm or deny whether a move was imminent.

However, Andrew Salzman, vice president worldwide advertising and brand strategy at Compaq, was quoted earlier this week in the US press as saying Ammirati would handle media "on an interim basis".

He added that Compaq would look at DDB Needham's media expertise as part of what could be "further consolidation."
