Concern is voiced over Murdoch backed MacKenzie radio bid

- Concern is mounting over Rupert Murdoch's backing of Kelvin MacKenzie's bid for Talk Radio.

The biggest point of controversy is Talk's involvement in the Digital One consortium which is bidding to run the entire national digital radio system.

It is feared that, if both the MacKenzie bid for Talk and the Digital One consortium are successful, News International, which will have a 20 per cent stake in Talk, will gain control over digital radio -- the one area where, to date, Murdoch has not been active.

Media analysts have said that whoever gains control of the digital radio multiplexes will decide which broadcasters have access to the digital airwaves.

Talk Radio has formed Digital One along with two other national commercial radio stations -- Virgin and Classic – to run the national digital radio mulitplex.
