Matt Edwards, chief executive of WCRS, will now preside over both businesses. Matt Willifer, WCRS’s chief strategy officer, will also oversee strategy at Deep Focus.

Deep Focus was called Jam before being rebranded in May 2015. Engine acquired Deep Focus – which has offices in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Shanghai – in 2010.

Debbie Klein, chief executive of Engine Europe and Asia-Pacific, said: "When Matt, Richard and I looked at the best way to respond to evolving market demand, we agreed that maintaining the distinctive skills and approaches of Deep Focus and WCRS was important, but that both agencies – and their customers and people – would benefit significantly from a much closer relationship.

"Matt will be an outstanding leader of both agencies."
