It Counts, the online training company set up by former Mirror

Media head of sales Ben Hedges, has teamed up with training and

recruitment consultancy Sales Associates to launch an internet

advertising sales course.

The first Selling Advertising on the Internet course will take place on

13 April at the It Counts office in Waterloo. It runs from 9am to 6pm

and costs pounds 345 plus VAT. There are places for 15 delegates. The

course will be run either monthly or quarterly, depending on demand.

Hedges said that working with Sales Associates had enabled It Counts to

devise a course tailored to the needs of organisations involved in

online advertising.

He said: ’There are a number of ’quick fix’ courses available in the

market but we aim to help clients move to the next level in their online

sales efforts - not simply get to where they should have been in the

first place.’

Sales Associates managing director Melanie Roberts said the partnership

meant the course was a blend of traditional and new-media sales

training.

’The new-media industry is beginning to recognise that its highly paid

sales staff need to be developed in both new-media selling skills and

good traditional account handling skills.’

Hedges launched It Counts earlier this year as a specialist new-media

training company for advertising sales people, planner/buyers and

marketers (Media Business, 28 February). His clients so far include

Outrider, the new-media arm of CIA Medianetwork, and the Discovery

Channel.

Sales Associates was founded in 1995 and is one of the industry’s

best-known training and recruitment operations. Its clients include VNU

Business Publications, Independent Newspapers and Global Media.

The new course will compete with a number of rival ventures, including

NewMediaHR, the recruitment and training agency that is run by Vincent

Sheppard and backed by Universal Media managing director Paul Angeli.
