D&AD forces BMP to withdraw VW poster in eligibility dispute

BMP DDB has been forced to withdraw the work which earned the sole nomination in the poster category at this year’s British Design & Art Direction Awards.

BMP DDB has been forced to withdraw the work which earned the sole

nomination in the poster category at this year’s British Design & Art

Direction Awards.

It emerged on Wednesday morning that the lenticular ad for the VW Polo

never ran as a tube card, although it was entered in the transport

division of the poster category.

Larry Barker, the creative director at BMP and incoming D&AD president,

said: ’The ad was bought by the client and ran as a poster, though there

seems to be some doubt as to whether it ran as a tube card. I had no

choice over withdrawing it.’

David Kester, chief executive of D&AD, said: ’One member of the jury

asked us to check whether the work ran or not. Obviously when work does

not meet the criteria, it must be withdrawn.’
