Sportinglife.com, the sports site jointly owned by the Mirror Group

and the Press Association, has appointed Delaney Lund Knox Warren and

its sister media shop, BJK&E, to handle its business after a pitch

against undisclosed agencies.

A range of media will be used to promote the site, including TV, press

and outdoor, in the first concerted marketing effort since the site’s

launch. An adspend figure of pounds 4 million has been mooted.

The Mirror Group promised heavy investment in the site when it abandoned

its planned relaunch of the Sporting Life newspaper last year (Campaign,

5 March 1999). Meanwhile, its rival sports-only title, Sport First, has

flourished, with impressive circulation increases reported in each ABC

period.

Neither agency would comment on the appointment as Campaign went to

press, and both are thought to be in the final contract stage with the

client.
