Diary: Brace yourself - Judge plans a career on screen

Male television presenters of a certain age, such as Des Lynam and Michael Parkinson, had better watch their backs amid rumours that a hot new talent is preparing to enter the fray.

News reaches Diary that Jerry Judge, the former global chief executive of Lowe and a one-time child film star, could return to the screen.

According to our source, Judge, still residing in the US, has been spotted with braces on his teeth, sparking speculation he is harbouring ambitions to make it as a TV presenter, something he denies.

Of course, as revealed earlier this year on these pages, Judge is no stranger to the world of celebrity. As a child, the young Judge played Jeremy Tracer in the 1959 airborne disaster movie Jet Storm alongside none other than Sir Richard Attenborough and Stanley Baker.

So while the rest of us mere mortals may harbour secret ambitions of becoming famous TV stars, for Judge it could become a reality. Such is his stardom, he even has his own entry on imdb.com.

However, while Diary is all in favour of a little self-improvement, let's hope Judge doesn't take the makeover too far and go for an orange perma-tan in the image of George Hamilton. But at least it might scotch those recurring rumours that he is returning to Lowe.
