DIARY: Does the Indie know something we don’t, or is it a big cock-up?

Listen up, people. You may not know this, but the gorgeous, pouting director general of the Advertising Standards Authority, Matti Alderson, has had a sex change.

Listen up, people. You may not know this, but the gorgeous, pouting

director general of the Advertising Standards Authority, Matti Alderson,

has had a sex change.

Courtesy of the Independent last week, we can now say goodbye Matti,

hello ‘Matthew’ Alderson.

This news is puzzling Matti’s - sorry, Matthew’s - friends, who saw her

last Wednesday night at the Grosvenor House wearing an evening dress.

You can see the headlines now: ‘Top ads censor in cross-dressing shock.’

Could this be the same Independent whose editor once berated Campaign

for its refusal to name the source of a story? When Campaign pointed out

that this practice was common at the Indie, said editor thundered back

to the effect that: ‘The trade press has an obligation to greater

standards of integrity than the national press.’

And who is this bastion of great journalism? Why, one Charlie Wilson,

or, as the Indie would surely put it, Charlotte Wilson.
