Zenith Media has always been renowned for tough negotiation. As a TV
contractor, you don’t mess with Zenith without thinking of the direst of
consequences (involving horses’ heads, concrete, extreme physical pain,
that sort of thing).
And now Graham Duff, Zenith’s thuggish joint managing director, is
exploiting his media agency’s hardman reputation by turning the screws
tighter on the fledgling Channel 5 for his own personal gain.
Duff’s dad, evidently, has applied to be a retuner for Channel 5, so it
comes all too naturally to Duff to be putting ‘a certain amount of
pressure’, shall we say, on his old pal, Nick Milligan, the station’s
sales chief, to smile upon Duff senior’s application.
‘I’ve just had a conversation roughly along the lines of ‘If you don’t
see fit to give my dad a job, my retired dad who lives in a rented flat
in Epping that is, and if you don’t pay him shed-loads of money, then
Zenith won’t spend anything with you,’’ Duff grins.
Sources tell us that Mr Duff senior is now all set for an enviable
career tweaking other people’s videos.
