6.30pm Luci Rathan, managing director of card advertising company
The Cardguide, shows off her new office in London’s meeja heartland Soho
Square. It’s next to the media agency John Ayling & Associates - how
7.00pm Circus After necking a few G ’n’ Ts, Swedish sweetie Sofie
Hagglund teaches us her innocent sales patter. It goes like this:
’Hel-lo, I’m So-fie, from-The Cardguide. Would-you, like-to, buy-a
caaard from me?’ It works a treat, but it helps if you are 22, blonde
and pretty (and female).
Meanwhile, Rathan describes her crazy days as publisher of Loaded. She
also reveals an eyebrow-raising expertise on contraception - she used to
manage a brand of contraceptive pill.
10pm Spiga We retire to the trendy Italian restaurant to indulge in
girly wedding chat with soon-to-be-spliced sales manager Deidre Hosein;
satin or crepe? tiara or veil? Lone male Matt Wright - Media Business’
sub editor - keeps schtum. Rathan gives me a list of places where you
can get a kebab and beer in Clapham after hours.
Hagglund is spotted sipping cocktails with the manager. She returns to
the table with a sale in the bag. The Swede has struck again.
