Heartbreaker Hugh Burkitt, the roguishly handsome chief of the ad

boutique, Court Burkitt, has been exposed as the secret love of the

National Heritage Secretary, Virginia Bottomley.

Burkitt has stunned the industry with a kiss-and-tell shocker detailing

how he beat John Major to the affections of the nation’s dishiest female

MP.

But he confessed that he shrugged off her advances and the relationship

never got past first base. The Diary has discovered how he:

Played with Virginia when they met as toddlers on a humble street in

Putney;

Rejected her pleas for affection, despite all Virginia’s efforts to

impress, including taking up cricket, a favourite of Hugh’s even then;

Made no secret of preferring Virginia’s elder brother, Chris.

‘I just wasn’t interested,’ he said. ‘I only had eyes for her brother

and his electric train set.’

The sensational love saga was finally exposed at a recent Advertising

Association luncheon, which Bottomley attended in her posh role as

Heritage Secretary.

Industry sources spotted the rather chummy exchange and started asking

questions.

Hot pants Hugh now swears the pair have been ‘just good friends’ over

the years, and denies speculation that any meetings that took place were

ever in secret.

‘We have always had our spouses in tow,’ he urged, strangely keen to

avoid a splash story on the back page of Campaign.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off Campaign's relaunch than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
