Diary: Hotcakes

News reaches Hotcakes of the perfect snack solution for games-addicted couch potatoes. Fernhart New Media has devised the first pizza delivery service through a games console. Because the Sega Dreamcast offers internet capability, hungry players can now go online and order a pizza from Domino’s website. Then it’s back to the game until the pizza arrives 30 minutes later. Fernhart assures us this service is only available through its client Domino’s - but then, they would, wouldn’t they?

No, Boomerang Media’s managing director Garfield Smith (pictured) hasn’t

upset a giant gangster toting a glass pistol. He is, in fact, guzzling

vodka-Martini through an ice sculpture at Boomerang’s recent James Bond

theme party. Sounds like a licence to get ill.

The bash was thrown at the Kensington Odeon to celebrate the launch of

Boomerang’s latest distribution network, the Baro chain. The partygoers

were dressed to kill and dreadful Sean Connery impersonations filled the

air. Whether anybody wanted to put their lips to the gun muzzle after

Smith had been prized off it, history doesn’t relate.

Posterscope’s Elaine Wylie will soon be taking a pounds 2,000 trip Down

Under after winning TDI’s ’scratch and win’ competition. Entrants had to

answer a series of questions about bus ad packages, scratch off a

bus-shaped panel and complete a tie-break slogan.

Elaine’s slogan was: ’Buses give me more flexibility because I can tease

with the Ts, go for coverage like L with the Ls and the clients come

back like boomerangs.’

Yes, I know. Bet you wish you’d entered now, don’t you?

Hotcakes considered phoning various media sales types to find out who

had the craziest new year - if they weren’t ogling fireworks down at the

river with the rest of us. But there was no point carrying on after

talking to 24/7’s marketing siren Sheena Gulab, who was white-water

rafting down the Zambezi on the big day. ’You haven’t lived until you’ve

done it,’ enthuses the intrepid Gulab, who also enjoys scuba diving in

shark-infested waters. Frankly, Hotcakes prefers her waters calm, warm

and infested with nothing but a rubber duck.
