Tricky business having two jobs, just ask Charles Saatchi. Not only is

there the hour he puts in at M&C Saatchi every week, but there’s a

little thing called the Saatchi Gallery to keep an eye on.



Take M&C Saatchi’s first birthday bash the other night. Of course, the

gallery’s been host to many arty-farty parties before - trouble is, some

of these arty types just can’t hold their beer. At the last Damien Hirst

launch, so much was spilled that the floor ended up resembling the

Hammersmith Odeon after a Thin Lizzy gig.



So much so that Charles was very nervous about his own birthday bash,

and made noises about banning beer. Step forward Scottish Courage’s John

Nicolson, one of his major newer clients. The mighty Jock generously

donated some pounds 5,000-worth of Courage amber nectar, forcing a

serious biting of the tongue.



What we really want to know is how can Charles be sure it was beer on

the floor post-Hirst? Surely it could have just been a case of bleeding

art.
