DIARY: Maher Bird staff star in Sun ads but who is the trouserless one?

Maher Bird Associates has been dedicating body and soul to its News International client of late, as we can reveal in our behind-the-scenes look at Deidre’s Photo Casebook. It looks like the team has also been pouring out its problems to Deidre and they have consequently all become so close that the boundaries between advertising and reality have got blurred.

Maher Bird Associates has been dedicating body and soul to its News

International client of late, as we can reveal in our behind-the-scenes

look at Deidre’s Photo Casebook. It looks like the team has also been

pouring out its problems to Deidre and they have consequently all become

so close that the boundaries between advertising and reality have got

blurred.

First, Deidre named Graham, the hapless Mirror man in the ad, after

Graham Monk, the agency’s group account director on the NI business. His

girlfriend, Fiona, is the fictional embodiment of Fiona Barnes, a

management assistant.

After the first ad ran, with Fiona dismissing Graham as a ‘pathetic

loser’ over a coffee in the agency kitchen, the team burped a sigh of

relief when the local pub was chosen for the next execution. Here, four

agency staff gawp at our Graham, who, despite being an avid Campaign

reader, has been caught with his trousers down.

Maher Bird denies employing the man with the chunky thighs and claims

not to know the barman. But, with that hairstyle, isn’t it possible that

the man pulling the pints is the agency boss, Stephen Maher, in

disguise?

What the Diary would also like to know is where did Graham Kerr, the art

director, learn to point at trouserless men like that?

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off Campaign's relaunch than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
