Heard the one about the fresh-faced, virginal media owner named Maiden,
the erect courgette and the bunch of playful admen from up North?
The Leeds-based agency, Poulters, recently tried to mount (fnarr) a
saucy poster campaign for the Vegetarian Society featuring a picture of
a firm, young courgette and the line: ‘Research suggests vegetarian food
can be really orgasmic.’
The ad was to have been part of the society’s first national poster
drive promoting medical research findings that suggest vegetarians have
a more robust sex life.
But Maiden, being of a coy disposition, withdrew (fnarr) the ad, saying:
‘The content was linked to the phallic visual of the courgette and that
was, we thought, likely to cause offence to the general travelling
‘It can only be penis envy,’ the society’s campaign director, Steve
Connor, says. Poulters says the poster will still be displayed in health
food shops during Veggie Week from 18 May.
Being of an altogether more racy disposition than Maiden, you can also
see the ad here.
