Lyttle was known in the local community as "Mole Man", having spent 40 years digging a network of tunnels under his home, and Buonaguidi felt that the pensioner's eccentricity needed to be remembered in a fitting manner. The plaque, usually reserved to commemorate historic figures or events, reads: "English characters. William "Mole Man" Lyttle, 1931-2010. Burrower. Lived and dug here, 1962-2009."
The Karmarama creative director, Dave Buonaguidi, also hit the headlines last week (well, of the local press anyway) for placing his own version of the prestigious "blue plaque" on the crumbling home of neighbour William Lyttle, who died last month.
