Diary: O&M takes yacht race prize after 13th effort

OK, so Ogilvy & Mather might not have won much new business in recent times but the agency can finally claim one victory. Mike Walsh can get the trophy cupboard out of his loft following the victory of O&M's team of sea-dogs, skippered by Paul Jackson and helmed by Malcolm Poynton, at this year's Inter Agency Yacht Race.

The agency beat Euro RSCG Partners, who managed to come second despite being rammed by a Channel 4 boat, which resulted in dented boats, wallets and pride.

Fortunately, the lawyers were on hand but Lewis Silkin was too busy failing to win any of this year's three races to notice. Nonetheless, some of Lewis Silkin's pride was restored at the prize-giving dinner where the employment and incentives lawyer Michael Burd performed a rap. We can only imagine how excruciating that was.

It was O&M's 13th attempt at the Inter Agency title so watch out - at this rate there's always the possibility that the agency might break into the top ten in the new-business league sometime before 2017.
