Diary: Old Bill gives glue MD's mum a bloody nice role

Along with Spice Girl Emma Bunton, comedian Russell Brand and actress Keira Knightley, James Sanderson's mum will have her moment of glory on ITV's The Bill next month.

It may only be a passing shot of the glue managing director's mum but, if you look very carefully, you'll see her portrait hanging on the wall, as a bloody fight takes place between a villain and the boys in blue in Sanderson's living room.

No, Sanderson hasn't turned to a life of crime, but when The Bill - which has its fictional headquarters, Sun Hill Police Station, around the corner from his townhouse in South Wimbledon - knocked on his door and asked if they could film a bust in his home, he agreed.

Luckily for Sanderson, though, he was in Cannes as the 40-strong crew took over his house or he would have returned from work to find fake blood all over the bedroom walls and shattered glass on the floor. The £1,000 cheque from The Bill would have probably eased the headache though.
