Diary: On the QT ..

It seems that a combination of advertising, Valentine's Day and cute little wind-up plastic characters are all it takes these days to make the general public part with its cash on that internet moneypit we know as eBay.

As Diary went to press, there were more than 50 of Fallon's wind-up "togetherness" toys from the recent Orange ads up for sale on the site, some of which were going for as much as £40 ...

Diary has a piece of advice for any would-be creatives out there, who have just embarked on the merry-go-round slog of trying to score a job in an agency. Don't use a huge colour photo of the second plane just seconds away from crashing into the World Trade Centre as the front of your CV, complete with a "comedic" caption. This is exactly what one prospective candidate did when applying for a job at Wieden & Kennedy, prompting it to call it the "most inappropriate application for any job, anywhere, ever". Also, the applicant's claim that he plays underwater rugby in his spare time didn't pass muster either ...

We all know Tyler Brule has been busy recently launching his new magazine, Monocle, but surely for his sake, and his partner's, he should be able to remember what other special occasion is taking place on the same day as his launch party on 14 February. Or maybe that is the whole point. From the man who edited Wallpaper*, anything is possible ...

Apparently, adland's golden couple, Clemmow Hornby Inge's Sarah Gold and Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R's David Golding, have signed up for ballroom dancing lessons, leading one witty industry wag to dub the duo "Goldenballs" ...

Some celebrities are such troopers. Diary has learnt that, despite having broken her wrist on the set of her film, The Accidental Husband towards the end of 2006, and having to have ten pins inserted, Uma Thurman refused painkillers while filming the latest Virgin Mobile ad because she didn't want her performance to be affected.
