Diary: On the QT ..

Diary is continually astounded by the desperate lengths people will go to for a job in advertising.

The latest was an applicant to Wieden & Kennedy who baked a cake topped with his CV on edible icing and delivered it to the agency's Hanbury Road base replete with the strapline: "Tasty CV." Only one problem: "Now that we've eaten it, we can't remember who it's from," an insider said ...

Following last week's nostalgic picture fest, which included a shot of Peter Marsh, the former Allen Brady & Marsh chairman, standing proudly next to his white Rolls-Royce, word reaches Diary that Claydon Heeley's Leo Campbell has had his Maserati stolen. It's one year since the launch of London's evening freesheets. Eager to please the hand that feeds them, News International's thelondonpaper has organised a swish party at adland's hippest spot, Shoreditch House. Budgets are clearly higher there than over at Associated Newspapers, which sent round a bag of sweets to celebrate a year of London Lite ...

Where on earth is Jonathan Durden? The former PHD man was notable by his absence from both thelondonpaper's "where are they now?" coverage of the former Big Brother contestants on Friday and Channel 4's final-night reunion ...

Diary is beginning to question the sporting prowess of digital agencies. Last week, Diary broke the news of Dare's "footballers" suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bartle Bogle Hegarty. Now we hear that Tribal DDB's softball team, who, under the watchful eye of its managing director, Bill Brock, have enjoyed an unbeaten record all summer, lost in their league final with News International after half the team stumbled on to the field having worked their way through too many pre-match pints. Pity.
