DIARY: Selina’s slight slip of the tongue at awards dinner was a real gas

Was it the briefing, or is Selina Scott just plain daffy? There she was, womanfully failing to hold the audience together as she presented last week’s British Television Advertising Awards, when up flashed the citation for DMB&B’s gold-winning ‘Dave’ anti drink-drive ad for the COI/Department of Transport.

Was it the briefing, or is Selina Scott just plain daffy? There she was,

womanfully failing to hold the audience together as she presented last

week’s British Television Advertising Awards, when up flashed the

citation for DMB&B’s gold-winning ‘Dave’ anti drink-drive ad for the

COI/Department of Transport.

The combination of years of autocue reading and a hostile audience had

obviously taken their toll, as stunned listeners were informed that the

award went to the ‘CO One’. This left the bemused audience, or those of

them who were still listening, to wonder why on earth anyone would want

to promote the virtues of carbon monoxide.

Undaunted, our Selina struggled on from a bizarre podium at the back of

the stage, pausing only to castigate the audience as ‘caged animals’.

But was it our imagination, or did she really describe that award-

winning directing duo as ‘Prawn and Anthea’?

What better way to kick off the inaugural issue of Campaign's monthly print offering than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
