Diary: Shedding pounds is a serious AMV business

The ad industry may not be known for its health-conscious ways, but down at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO they take it very seriously.

Two client services directors, Ian Pearman and Peter Knowland, have decided to go head-to-head in a battle of the bulge. As both are men of somewhat "cuddly" dimensions, they are fighting it out in a series of monthly weigh-ins to rival Pat and Mo from EastEnders.

And they mean business. A couple of months in and the competition has suddenly got fierce.

Although neither has resorted to the tactics of the Albert Square residents, Knowland has decided to take a six-week sabbatical to South America, probably in the hope of contracting some tummy-bug that will aid his weight-loss.

Pearman, meanwhile, is left at home with his motivation, a September wedding looming and not a tropical illness in sight.
