Diary: Tabloids in a spin as Cat and Mark part company

Anyone following the tabloid coverage of the split between the TV presenter Cat Deeley and her creative director boyfriend, Mark Whelan, must be dizzy from the spin.

While everyone agrees Deeley and Whelan, who works for the branded content and PR outfit Cake, are no longer an item, who dumped whom is less certain.

A "friend" of Whelan, quoted by the Daily Star, says: "Mark has been reassessing his life and decided his future wasn't with Cat."

At the Sunday Mirror, however, another Whelan "pal" says Deeley turned Whelan down when he proposed because of her Hollywood ambitions. You pay your money and you take your choice.
