Diary: Thinkbox membership becomes kiss of death

Thinkbox, the commercial TV marketing body, might be attempting to create a dynamic image for the medium but agency wags have rechristened it with a new name that suggests it might not quite be succeeding.

The body is now widely referred to as "brownbox" in the agency community, a reference to the euphemism for a wooden coffin.

It's not that being a member of Thinkbox is literally a death sentence, but observers can't help noticing that its board members are dropping like flies. First Mark Howe, the managing director of ids, is struck off the Brownbox team after leaving the Flextech sales house, and then Mark Wood, the commercial director of Sky Media, is moving on with no job to go to.

Agencies are already taking bets on who might be next for the Brownbox treatment. New board members ITV's Justin Sampson, Sky Media's Nick Milligan and ids' James Wildman should take note.
