Diary: Tom drowns sorrows

It's always painful to narrowly miss out on your dream job - just ask TMW's Tom Harman.

The copywriter recently competed for the coveted title of London Ale Taster 2010, but, after four gruelling rounds of beer-tasting and an ale-fuelled presentation at Spitalfields market, he sadly failed to land the top prize.

He was gutted, which is hardly surprising given that the holder gets an undisclosed sum every week to fund their boozing. Still, he can console himself with having his experience immortalised on YouTube (tiny.cc/vbh4m) and avoiding (for now) becoming adland's answer to Ollie Reed.
