Diary: Tycoons show soft side

Adlanders generally don't like being categorised.

But Diary didn't hear too many complaints about the London Evening Standard's 2011 "1,000 most influential people" list, which put the city's most influential ad types in the "tycoons" category (the same bracket as Sir Alan Sugar). The thrusting bosses in question were Sir Martin Sorrell, Robert Saville, Robert Senior, Cilla Snowball and David Kershaw. At the star-studded party to celebrate the top 1,000 last week, there was no doubt plenty of serious deal-making and brainstorming among attendees. However, one of them, the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, had more important matters on his mind. He spent most of the night showing Snowball pictures of his baby on his iPhone.
