DIARY: Veteran account man shows servicing skills do not fade in old age

What with having Madonna as a daughter-in-law, you would think that John Ritchie has enough thrills in his life to keep him satiated. Well think again.

Despite having reached the ripe old age of 70, the ex-CDP man still has a vivacious appetite for life's little pleasures. And it would seem that the man once dubbed the best account handler in the business has not lost his talent for servicing.

But don't take our word for it, just ask his wife, Shireen. In last Thursday's Daily Mail, Ritchie's missus contributed to a feature called "What's the best age for sex?" Well, apparently the best age for sex is her age, for it seems that Mr and Mrs Ritchie are having the time of their lives.

"Your love life certainly doesn't come to an end when you are in you 50s," Shireen explains. "Believe me, a long and successful relationship does not have to become boring."

So what's the secret, Shireen? What kind of tricks does John have up his sleeve, then? Help us out, would you?

"John and I can fill the house with candles ..." Yes, then what? "Close the curtains ..." Go on, what else? "And dance around!" Wow. You randy old goats, you.

Of course, being the Daily Mail, the piece is nowhere near as saucy as we led you to believe. Besides which, there's more to John and Shireen's relationship than just sex. Apparently, these days it's all about companionship, "even if that means just snuggling up on the sofa".

Well, hats off to them both. By the way, here at Campaign we're thinking of making this a regular feature of the Diary. So if any of you retired agency bigwigs have still got lead in your Pencils, then drop us a line and tell us your story. God knows, we could do with the excitement.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off the inaugural issue of Campaign's monthly print offering than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
