Diary: Water-cooler monitor

WHAT TOPICS HAS THE INDUSTRY BEEN DISCUSSING THIS WEEK?
THE TALK TIME SPENT
The Thomas Cook media pitch. The travel company's 1 hr 52 mins
attempt to extract a "signing-on" fee from an agency
has caused uproar, but not everyone thinks Thomas Cook
is being outrageous (see Web Witter and Letters, p22).
Whatever your view, it's an extremely dangerous precedent
for the industry to accept.

Roll the flags up, put the corks back in the bottles: 1 hr 27 mins
the advertising recovery has evaporated. We're back in
the red zone, with spend down by 4.6 per cent. So will
the start to the year prove just a small positive blip
in an otherwise relentlessly depressing year?

Those Tory films, by Euro RSCG, that we simply can't 49 mins
tell you about. What's in them and why didn't they make
it to air? And what's happened to David Cameron's promise
of an open government?
