Diary: Will Sampson be the latest 'star' in Parky's line-up of ITV greats?

Well, the theme music's the same, the name's the same and the set hasn't changed that much either. Yet there's something a little different about Michael Parkinson's chat-show, now that it's moved to ITV. True, he's still bagging the stars - such as Hollywood's biggest little man Tom Cruise or the Oscar winner Denzel Washington. And yes, he's still letting Billy Connolly in on the act (one wonders what there is left to ask the Big Yin after 33-sodding-years' worth of interviews about his time working in the damned shipyards).

No, the difference has something to do with guests such as Simon Cowell and Ant and Dec. Could it be that Parkinson is being strong-armed into using his chat- show to promote ITV's array of fabulous stars?

So who will Parky be chatting to once the Hollywood stars dry up? Which other ITV company men will be roped in? Ross Kemp? Jonathan "ooh I still 'aven't got a catchprase" Wilkes?

Surely, the day can't be far away when we'll see Parky chatting to Justin Sampson about the intricacies of customer relationship management. God help us all.
