Diary: Winner's wealth sees him into the Rich List

There's nothing surer, the rich get rich and the poor get poorer. So the old song says. Well, it's certainly true of the super-wealthy who, according to The Sunday Times Rich List, just can't stop piling on the pounds. Not least, go-getters from adland and the media world.

The reclusive Barclay twins, still hoping to add The Daily Telegraph to their stable, occupy 42nd spot with £750 million. Richard Desmond, their erstwhile rival for the title, is close behind. His estimated £700 million places him 46th.

The Saatchi brothers are at 305 with £127 million, while Sir Martin Sorrell, their one-time finance chief, comes in at 378 with an estimated £104 million.

And at 950? None other than Michael Winner with £40 million. Please tell us it's nothing to do with Esure.
