Breijer, who will report to Graham Duff, the president of Interpublic's media parent group IPG Mediabrands, was previously Universal's chief executive in the Netherlands.

The appointment follows changes at Universal's sister agency, Initiative, last week, which saw Mario Mateus, the chief executive of Initiative Portugal, appointed as the network's president across the EMEA region.

Breijer steps into a role that has been created by Duff's elevation to the Mediabrands role. He joined Universal McCann Netherlands in 2001 from OMD Netherlands.

He said: "I am thrilled about this new challenge.

"We are in the midst of very exciting times in media and marketing which makes being able to address these opportunities from a regional level even more interesting."
