DIRECT NEWS: BMP Direct’s creatives depart for Lowe Direct

Roddy Kerr and Arthur Parshotam, the only two creatives employed by

BMP Direct, are leaving to join Lowe Direct a year after they went to

BMP.

The duo will become the executive creative directors of Lowe Direct. The

incumbent creative director, Steve Broadhurst, has left the agency by

mutual agreement.

The move throws into question BMP DDB’s plans for its direct capability,

leaving BMP Direct with one staff member, Stuart Archibald, the outfit’s

director, who joined at the same time as Kerr and Parshotam (Campaign,

13 June 1997).

However, James Best, the chairman of BMP, explained that the direct

function would be expanded and that ’bigger plans’ were afoot, possibly

for a more independent direct operation. ’We will build the direct

marketing resource in-house and externally. BMP Direct was never a

separate operation; but through Roddy and Arthur the understanding of

direct marketing is more embedded in the creative department than it was

Parshotam and Kerr have been a team for 12 years, having joined forces

at Chuter Morgenthau. It later merged with Ayer and the pair became

associate directors of Ayer Barker. In 1990 they joined WCRS as creative

group heads before moving to Craik Jones in 1993.

Lowe Direct set up in April 1996 under the former GGT Direct management

team of Tony Watson, Nick Young and Ian Taylor. Taylor, the managing

partner, said: ’We have seen dramatic growth since our inception and we

now need very clear creative leadership. A team of Parshotam and Kerr’s

calibre, with their awards-studded heritage, makes them a perfect fit.

We create work for great brands and they have huge brand

comprehension.’

Lowe Direct’s clients include Lloyds TSB - its founding account - the

Times, the RAC and Orange. The agency has recorded billings of pounds 44

million.
