Discovery Network Europe is searching for a new UK advertising
agency after parting company with Bates UK.
Discovery, which has shortlisted around five agencies for the pounds 2.5
million account, already runs eight brands on nine channels and this
week announced plans to launch Discovery Health, a dedicated health
station in the UK.
Virginia Lee, director of communications at Discovery, confirmed the
advertising review, which she said was ’procedural’.
She declined to say which agencies were involved although Bates, the
incumbent on the account for four years, will not repitch.
Lee also declined to comment on reports that Discovery had a new policy
of targeting smaller shops: ’It makes sense to talk to a variety of
Bates’ recent advertising for Discovery has focused on highlighting

In addition, Discovery has been running ads created by the London agency
Hooper & Galton since the start of the year.
The media buying account is unaffected by the review and will remain
Discovery Health, which launches in July, is already a successful TV and
online brand in the US. It will join the main stations: Discovery
Channel Europe; Discovery Home and Leisure; Animal Planet; Discovery
Travel and Adventure; Discovery Civilisation; Discovery Sci-Trek;
Discovery Kids and Discovery Wings.
