Editorial: Hear, hear. Commons sense on ad curbs

Let's raise a glass to David Cameron's Tories, who have pledged not to introduce statutory controls on snack-food and alcohol advertising should they win the next election.

Obesity and binge-drinking are a manifestation of social problems that have little to do with advertising. Restrictions on food and alcohol promotion are already strict. Statutory curbs would be futile. Thank heavens the possible government-in-waiting has got the message.
