Equinox nets £14m Hyundai UK media

Hyundai Motor Group has moved its £14 million UK media planning and buying business from PHD to ZenithOptimedia's Equinox subsidiary.

The move is part of an alignment of Hyundai's global media business. It was carried out in partnership with Hyundai's new UK in-house creative shop Innocean.

The decision to move the UK media account was precipitated by a takeover of Hyundai in the UK by its South Korean headquarters. Zenith's main agency is unable to run the business owing to conflict with its Toyota client.

According to sources, it is only a matter of time before Hyundai moves its £25 million creative account, which is currently handled by VCCP, to Innocean. However, the switch has been delayed by difficulties in recruiting staff at Innocean's London office.

Hyundai also owns the Kia marque, but the move is not thought to affect Kia's relationship with its UK media agency M2M. However, the UK creative account, which is handled by Mustoes, is believed to be under threat.
