Esporta doubles first-half profits as sports clubs boom

Esporta, formerly First Leisure, has reported first half-year profits almost double that for the same period in 1999.

LONDON (Brand Republic) - Esporta, formerly First Leisure, has reported first half-year profits almost double that for the same period in 1999.

The company, which shed its bar and nightclub business last year, has opened more sports clubs across the UK this year, boosting membership by 22%. Net income increased to £3.5m from £1.8m last time. Shares rose 1.5p yesterday to 104p. Its share price dropped 20% since it floated on February 1.
