– The online football market is to be joined by a European football portal, Eurofootball.com, which is planning to launch in March, in time for Euro 2000.

Eurofootball.com will be a multi-lingual site targeting fans in England, Germany, Sweden, France, Spain and Italy in their own language. It will offer a range of information, news, interactive services, fantasy football games and ecommerce merchandise.

The launch is to be backed by an extensive marketing effort, which will include a pan-European advertising campaign through the Lowe Group. Seventy-five per cent of the ad budget will be spent on offline media, with the remainder being spent online. The site is being designed and built in-house.

Hakan Ramsin, who is also chief executive of letsbuyit.com and a board member of Icon Medialab, has been named as eurofootball.com's chairman. Other founding partners include ex-Coca-Cola brand managers Per Olholt and Dan Josefsberg, and Paul Fischbein, formerly business development manager of Fashion TV.
