Excel Outdoor wins Score poster contract

Independent poster contractor and sales house Excel Outdoor Media

has landed the contract to sell Score Outdoor’s 200-plus 48-sheet sites

in London and East Anglia.

The deal follows Score’s acquisition of Grosvenor Advertising on 15

December. Grosvenor owned around 100 sites in London and sold them

through Excel.

These sites have been put into a package with around 100 sites that were

previously owned by another Score acquisition - Bristol-based Parkin

Advertising - and sold by More Group subsidiary Postermobile.

’Even after we combined the two sets of sites, we still didn’t think we

were ready to create our own London-based sales and marketing

operation,’ explained Mike Parkin, Score’s managing director, South-west

region. ’We looked at the options in terms of sales houses. Excel has a

fantastic reputation with the agencies and was really impressive.’

Eric Farquharson, sales director at Excel, said: ’This reinforces our

reputation and enhances our London portfolio. Score is clearly an

exciting company that has expanded quickly. We would expect the number

of Score sites in London to continue to grow, and anticipate that we

will grow our relationship too.’

Excel was founded by Farquharson and managing director Michael Hawkes

after they left British Transport Advertising five years ago. It has

sales of around pounds 6 million. The company employs a sales team of

four but Farquharson said he would be looking to hire more sales staff

in the wake of the Score win.

Score Outdoor is the outdoor division of Scottish Radio Holdings. Since

last March, SRH has acquired Glasgow-based Trainer, Parkin Advertising,

Birmingham-based Vision Posters and Manchester-based Signways as well as

Grosvenor.
