- LineOne, the BT and United News & Media owned free online service, has partnered with The Express newspaper to launch Express Online.

The service was launched on Saturday with 350,000 CDs covermounted to London residents on The Express's Saturday Magazine. Readers outside London were encouraged to call a free phone number.

This is the first deal in LineOne's 'mothering' programme, whereby LineOne enables companies to build a strong online presence by using LineOne's infrastructure and services.

The Express, part of the United News & Media group, is likely to be followed down the 'mothering' route by other United News operations, including Meridian and Anglia television.

Rene Moolenaar, commercial director, at LineOne, said: "We are delighted to be launching this strong co-branded service with The Express. The combination of LineOne's functionality and The Express's compelling content creates a superb free online service for The Express's 2.9 million readers."
