FCB has been without a management-level planner since the departure of David Bain in November 2004.
In his new role, Calvert's task will be to develop broader strategic thinking across FCB, FCBi and FCB Healthcare. He will report directly to FCB's chief executive, Nigel Jones, who also works across the FCB Group.
Calvert's advertising career covers creative, digital, direct marketing and media agencies. He joins from Proximity, where he has worked since March 2004. He was a founding partner and the planning director of Heresy and has also worked as a communications director at Carat. He started his advertising career as an account planner at Euro RSCG London.
Jones said: "Calvert is one of a kind. His planning experience covers advertising, direct, digital and media. In each of these areas, he has occupied crucial positions in very successful operations. At FCB, he will bring all this together as we create a unified planning function across the whole FCB UK Group."
