Fly Enterprises, publisher of music and gig guide The Fly, has

signed a distribution agreement with Virgin Megastores and is looking

for a sales executive to court mainstream advertisers.

The Fly, which is aimed at 16- to 24-year-olds, claims to have the

second-biggest circulation of any music magazine, distributing around

100,000 copies in 60 independent music venues and at live gigs around

the country.

Following the deal with Virgin, The Fly will go out to an extra 20,000

consumers.

The magazine will be available in 84 Virgin Megastores across the UK by

June.

Sales manager Denzil Thomas, who joined the operation two months ago

from the Student Broadcast Network, said: ’We want to take a lot more

advertising now that the title is more readily available.

’We offer an attractive package to advertisers because ads in The Fly

reach a very specific audience. Although we’ll be going more mainstream,

the type of reader will stay largely the same because the magazine will

be available in the indie sections of the stores.’

The Fly is also looking for companies to sponsor sections of the

magazine.

Its ’On the Job’ section is sponsored by Activate, the graduate

recruitment directory. Gameplay.com has signed up to sponsor the game

review section from April. Three beer brands are discussing the

possibility of blanket sponsorship of the magazine, website and its live

music venue the Barfly Club.

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off Campaign's relaunch than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
