Freeserve announces strong interim results

Freeserve reported a second quarter turnover for the period ending November 13 of £3.8 million, with average weekly turnover up 49 per cent compared to the first quarter of 1999.

Losses were down at £3.6 million compared to £5 million in the previous quarter.

Importantly, its subscriber base continued to rise at a rate of 14,000 new subscribers a week. It reported 1.575 million active accounts now registered. This is up 12 per cent on the previous quarter. As of January 2, however, Freeserve is reports the total number of active accounts at 1.675 million.

Average four-weekly churn of 7.7 per cent is also down from 9.5 per cent in the first quarter;

Other key figures were 109.9 million page impressions in November a figure up 44 per cent on last time.

John Pluthero, chief executive officer of Freeserve, said: "I am pleased to present another strong set of results which reflects our position as both the leading Internet service provider and the leading portal in the UK. We now have the most recognised Internet brand in the country and through our arrangements with BT Cellnet and others, we are building on this to ensure that Freeserve is available wherever the Internet can be accessed."
