– Freeserve, the free internet service provider, is understood to be in take-over talks with publishing company Dorling Kindersley.

Freeserve is thought to be one of several firms which have approached DK following its disastrous profits warning last week. The company is expected to make a £25 million loss following news that it has had to write off £14 million of books based on Star Wars.

The educational and children's publisher would make an attractive buy for Freeserve giving it access to a wealth of children's, leisure and entertainment.
